Continuous Experimentation: A Chatbot Story
Data Science should drive real positive change in a business. There are however a number of common challenges when trying to deliver:
-Are you building the right thing?
-How do you know when it is good enough?
-Will the solution degrade from the whiteboard to the hands of the customer?
-What happens after we go live?
-Do we have to label more examples?

NewDay Data Science share their experience on building successful intent detection models in a Financial Services organisation using Lean and Agile principles such as validated learning & continuous improvement. The key themes:
-Problem definition: an unloved essential
-Unreasonable effectiveness of evaluation
-Experimentation is an organisational issue
-Software engineering approach for continuous experimentation
-How to invest your labelling budget

Peter Weidauer, Senior Data Science Engineer has 20 years of experience. He has brought an exceptionally high standard of software professionalism and craftsmanship to Machine Learning engineering in NewDay.

Josh Plasse, Senior Data Scientist graduated with a PhD in statistics from Imperial College London. His thesis and expertise is in fast estimation of parameters in non-stationary processes. He has lead the science roadmap for intent detection for several months.

Alina Podkovkina, Data Engineer joined our team and quickly become our resident data guru. She has built SQL analytics engineering pipelines which help our analysts self-serve high-volume data analysis. Recently she has started doing more Machine Learning work and is just as accomplished as a Scientist too.

Idelkys Quintana, Senior DevOps Engineer has strong platform experience in cloud environments; her last role used IaC to provide custom cloud environments as a service to customers. Idelkys is a research specialist in network design & architecture; something that is very useful as nobody else on the team knows the difference between subnets & cidrs!
